@ come in /kʌm  ɪn/

     to enter a room or building (vào, tới, đến)

     Do you want to come in for a cup of tea?

     He came in with four shopping bags and dumped them on the table.


@ stand up /stænd ʌp/

     to be in an upright position on your feet; to get yourself into an upright position on your feet (đứng lên)

     I've been standing up all day and I'm ready tired.

     It was customary then for children to stand up when the teacher came into the classroom.


@ sit down /sɪt daʊn/

     to move your body so that the lower of it is resting on a seat or on the ground (ngồi xuống)

     He nudged the cat off the sofa so that he could sit down.

     She did not sit down but looked at him with a contemptuous smile, waiting for the valet to go.


@ take out /teɪk aʊt/

     to remove something from somewhere (lấy ra, đem ra, mang ra)

     She opened her bag and took out a small notebook.

     They had to take out two of his teeth.


@ write down /raɪt daʊn/

     to write something on a piece of paper so that you do not forget it (viết vào giấy)

     Do you write down his phone number?

     After you've created the pieces of your game, write down the rules.


@ pick up /pɪk ʌp/

     to collect, or to go and get, someone or something (thu, lượm, nhặt)

     Drop by and pick up that book sometime.

     Could you pick up my suit from the cleaner's for me, please?


@ make up /meɪk ʌp/

     to invent something, such as an excuse or a story, often in order to deceive (tạo ra, dựng lên)

     I made up an excuse about having to look after the kids.

     She told us stories about her family, but they were all made up.


@ look up /lʊk ʌp/

     to try to find a piece of information by looking in a book or on a computer (tra cứu, tìm kiếm)

     If you don't know what the word means, look it up in a dictionary.

     You could try looking him up in a dictionary of biography.


@ miss out /mɪs  aʊt/

     to fail to use an opportunity to enjoy to get an advantage from something (bỏ lỡ một dịp vui, cơ hội)

     Don't miss out on the fantastic bargains in our summer sale.

     We didn't have a TV at home when I was young, and I felt as though I missed out.


@ turn over /tɜːn 'əuvər/

     to turn the pages of a book, magazine until one has reached the desired or specified page (lật, giở sang bên )

     He didn't wait to turn the page over, he started to read the book attentively.

     He looked into the radiant eyes that were gazing at him, and continued to turn over the pages and read.
